Dr. Jitendra Desai is a highly esteemed surgeon with a remarkable career spanning over five decades. He began his medical journey at Vadilal Medical College in Ahmedabad, where he earned his MBBS degree in 1970. His passion for surgery led him to complete his postgraduate studies, obtaining a Master of Surgery (MS) degree in 1974 from the same institution. This advanced training laid the foundation for his specialization in complex surgical procedures and techniques.
Shortly after completing his postgraduate studies, Dr. Desai joined Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, as an Assistant Professor, where he gained valuable teaching experience for 2 months. He then moved to Vadodara, where he worked as a surgeon for four years, perf`orming a wide range of surgical procedures and establishing himself as a skilled and reliable surgeon in the medical community.
In 1979, Dr. Desai founded the Desai Surgical and Eye Hospital in the heart of Vadodara, located on Dandia Bazaar Road, Raopura. Since its inception, he has been practicing at this facility. The Desai Surgical and Eye Hospital is renowned for providing top-notch treatments in gastroenterology and related diseases, establishing itself as a pioneer in the region.
In 1979, Dr. Desai started his private practice in Vadodara, Gujarat. Over the years, he has built a reputable practice known for its patient-centric approach and high standards of care. Dr. Desai’s pursuit of excellence led him to Chennai in 1983, where he completed a super specialty training in Gastrointestinal (GI) Endoscopy, encompassing both diagnostic and operative techniques. He became the first surgeon to introduce GI Endoscopy in the entire Vadodara Division, revolutionizing the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders in the region. Always at the forefront of medical advancements, Dr. Desai pioneered the introduction of laparoscopy in the Vadodara Division in 1993. He initiated Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs featuring audio and visual lectures, becoming the first doctor in the region to implement such innovative educational methods. Dr. Desai has a keen interest in liver and pancreatic diseases, areas in which he has developed significant expertise. In 1998, he founded the Ulcerative Colitis Club and the Liver Care Center Club, the first of their kind in India. Dr. Desai has attended over 40 national and international conferences, continuously expanding his knowledge and skills. His visits to the USA, London, and Canada for advanced training in GI Endoscopy and Laparoscopy have enriched his practice with cutting-edge techniques and global best practices.
His exceptional contributions have been recognized with a Guinness World Record for his work in Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD). Additionally, the Indian Post Office honored him by featuring his picture on a revenue stamp, a testament to his significant impact on the medical field.
